E-COMMERCE APP
I recently started an Etsy shop that has blown up more than expected. I have had complaints from customers when ordering (not about the product being sold, but about the product platform). This made we want to explore solutions that would help my customers.

THE CHALLENGE
The challenge with some current e-commerce sites (like Etsy) were poor mobile detail, no product comparison, uncertain delivery options, and complicated search menus.
-
Poor Mobile Detail
-
Wrong keypad shows up with numerical fields
-
Search bar is not fully visible on mobile
-
Shopping experience is different on mobile than desktop, but that is not accounted for in the UX
-
-
No Product Comparison
-
Have to navigate away from the product page in order to compare it to another brand/product online
-
Price? Pictures? Reviews?
-
Have to google a comparison on Google
-
-
Delivery Options
-
No clue what delivery options there are until you’re almost done checking out
-
Don’t know shipping times when adding items to cart
-
Don’t know shipping costs until check out
-
-
Complicated Searching
-
Way too many choices in menu at first glance (which doesn’t translate to mobile)
-
Search bar is not optimized for “non product” searching (ex. returns)
-
Search bar is not intuitive with misspelling
-

THE SOLUTION
Optimizing the standard e-commerce desktop platform for mobile by including the following.
-
Comparison
-
Have the option to compare products of different brands within the same UI
-
-
Delivery
-
Know delivery options and prices before reaching checkout
-
-
Searching
-
Simplified menu and intuitive search bar
-
USER RESEARCH
The first step in usability testing was an observational session of the mid fidelity wireframes. By using the rainbow sheet method, I was able to put together a list of observations I gained from the participants. These observations led to actionable solutions that were implemented in the high fidelity wireframes.
